Integrating SCADA Data with Tandem Connect

Keep up to date with Autodesk Tandem

Modern SCADA platforms support industry-standard protocols like OPC UA and MQTT, making it easier to connect operational data to a Tandem Digital Twin using Tandem Connect.

Tandem Connect provides built-in plugins for both protocols. For MQTT, it can subscribe to data published to an existing MQTT broker and ingest selected topics. If no broker is in place, Tandem Connect offers its own, allowing teams to manage both the broker and integration in one environment. In the example shown, simulated CNC machine data—such as servo motor temperature—is published to a broker, ingested by Tandem Connect, and mapped to assets like robots within the digital twin.

For OPC UA, Tandem Connect connects to an OPC UA server and retrieves SCADA data at defined intervals. In the demonstration, simulated SCADA tags are streamed through an OPC UA server, transformed through a Tandem Connect pipeline, and sent to Tandem. The data is then mapped to facility parameters and linked to specific assets.

By supporting both MQTT and OPC UA, Tandem Connect enables seamless integration of live SCADA data into Tandem—bringing real-time operational context to digital assets.
