Digital twin is not a buzzword
Welcome to the Digital Thread!
Fred Ortiz from P2S joined the Digital Thread to discuss his journey with digital twin technology. During this interview, we cover the following topics:
- The primary value of digital twins for P2S’s clients is extended engagement beyond the construction process.
- The value of real-time monitoring and historical data analysis of buildings, equipment, and space performance for clients.
- Building a digital twin can pose challenges; in this case, it was integrating Building Management Systems (BMS) with cloud services. Ortiz highlights the difficulty in connecting local data networks to the cloud, a problem partly solved by using Tridium’s Niagara framework and cloud service.
- Ortiz advises other AEC firms to be persistent and thorough in researching digital twin solutions, warning against companies offering inauthentic services. He emphasizes the importance of finding a solution that aligns with a firm’s values and goals.
- Looking forward, digital twin technology is expected to evolve from its current state to more predictive, maintenance-focused, and eventually autonomous stages. This progression will enable buildings to self-diagnose and repair, enhancing the lifecycle management of these structures. P2S plans to educate both internal and external clients on the use of digital twins through various platforms like white papers, podcasts, and live demos.
